By: Lyndie Cooper Iron Man is one of the many Marvel characters. His real name is Tony Stark. He does not have any super powers, but he is a billionaire genius industrialist. He created his suit of armor, which essentially is why he is called "Iron Man," to escape from his enemies who were forcing him to create a weapon of mass destruction. After escaping, Stark decided to use his suit, money, and intellect, as a way to help make the world a safer place.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Man
Chapter 4: The Self and InteractionAchieved Status- a status earned through individual effort or imposed by others (p. 116) Iron Man is a perfect example of what achieved status is. He is not like most super heroes that were born with a super power and were destined to help humanity. Tony Stark is what I like to call a "self-made super hero." He is a genius industrialist and built his own suit of armor. The Iron Man suit is not only close to impenetrable, but it also has rocket thrusters that enable Tony Stark to fly, he has access to J.A.R.V.I.S. (Just a Rather Very Intelligent System) that is Stark's home computer system, advanced weaponry, and many other features. After creating the suit Tony Stark realized its capabilities and that he could use it to help make the world a better place. He essentially made himself the next super hero. Iron Man is known for having a bit large of an ego... Who could blame him?
Chapter 6: Deviance Innovators- individuals who accept society's approved goals
but not society's approved means to achieve them (p.157)
Iron Man, like many other super heroes, is a prime example of an innovator. He accepts the idea that the world needs to be a better place and wants to be a positive impact, but he doesn't agree with the norms of achieving this goal. He believes it is much more effective to use his technology to fight crime than means such as the police force. Iron Man does not exactly go through the proper legal process before he acts, he just wants to get the job done. With the help of J.A.R.V.I.S. and his Iron Man suit, he is able to get to a scene faster, fight back with more weapon power, and has more mobilization capabilities than his typical enemy. And even though he is commonly criticized for his means of dealing with the "bad guys," he genuinely believes that there's nothing wrong with going about things unconventionally.
